Blue Monday - New Order (1983)
I failed to prepare a track for today, so you instead you get a track that everyone’s already heard a thousand times. I usually tell people this is the best track ever recorded in the history of music. I’m only partly joking. This song is so important to me that for the past year I’ve been posting to a blog called FAC73 (fuckyeahbluemonday.tumblr.com). The Pleasures of Electricity wouldn’t exist without “Blue Monday.” When I first encountered this 12” in the mid-80s I was already listening to some synthpop and synth-heavy post-New Pop, but it was “Blue Monday” that set me on a twenty-five year course exploring machine music.
